The
Alabama Computer Forensic Laboratories were created by the Alabama District
Attorneys Association to directly support the efforts of the Distirct
Attorneys and other criminal justice entities within the State investigate
and prosecute criminal offenses where digital evidence may be involved.
The ACFL has personnel in all three Federal Judicial Districts within
Alabama and provides these subject-matter expert's services to any criminal
justice agency investigating a crime within Alabama at no charge to the
requesting agency.
These experts frequently examine digital evidence and recover data that
generates new investigative leads, provides additional evidence or, in some
cases, the only evidence of criminal activity. In other cases, these
examinations have helped to exhonerate innocent persons. Additionally, ACFL experts often testify in court about their
examinations and provide training to law-enforcement, prosecutors, and
citizens about various computer crime related issues.
